Our Story
The FlintMeryl Story
Born among musicians and educators at LeGrand Music Studios in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Where it began
Born among musicians and educators.
FlintMeryl was born among musicians and educators at LeGrand Music Studios, a music education studio in Knoxville, Tennessee. As working professional musicians and teachers, we wanted to help our students find high-quality instruments at an affordable price.
The Name
Flint & Meryl
The name FlintMeryl brings together Flint and Meryl, our founder’s children—a personal connection at the heart of the company.
Our experience
Shaped by teaching and performing.
Through teaching and performing, we understood how much an instrument can shape the experience of making music. How it feels in your hands, how it responds, and how it supports your progress all matter—whether you’re learning your first notes or performing for an audience.
That experience guides the care we put into FlintMeryl. We work with craftspeople we personally select from around the world, building relationships with people whose skill and attention to detail have earned our trust.
Where we are rooted
Rooted in East Tennessee.
Rooted in East Tennessee’s Ridge and Valley region of the Appalachian Mountains, near the Great Smoky Mountains, FlintMeryl draws inspiration from the beauty of our surroundings and the music woven into everyday life here. We carry that sense of connection into our work: knowing the people we work with, caring about what we offer, and remembering the musician who will hold each instrument.
Our purpose
Quality instruments within reach.
What began with supporting our students has grown to serve hobbyists and professionals, too. Our purpose remains the same: quality instruments within reach, chosen with a professional musician’s experience and an instructor’s care.
